My experience learning English at University

Unfortunately all my university experience has been online due to the pandemic, for this reason it is very boring to learn remotely in all the fields I have studied and the fault is not the teachers, but the context. As for English, it was a bit strange to do this subject again after a year without having it, I must admit that my English was a bit rusty and I had to get used to understanding grammar, verbs and when to use them, among others, If I'm honest, that part is boring for me, I prefer to read and try to understand on my own, but I know that grammar is necessary because it is the basis of the language.

From my perspective, writing in English and forming sentences is what is most difficult for me, I think I could improve this quality by reading more in English about grammar, watching videos on YouTube or perhaps doing a course in which they teach me from 0 to so I can learn in a better way.

The truth is that when I'm alone I try to speak in English, since with another person I get nervous and feel a bit ashamed, I imagine in my head different contexts in which I might need to speak in English and I form sentences that would help me answer questions or communicate, from time to time I write them down to review them and see where I am failing to improve. On the other hand, all the series and movies that I watch during my free time I leave them in English and with subtitles to be able to learn even more either speaking, typical phrases or even pronunciation.

Changes to My Study Programme

The career I study is geography, I am in second year and I will speak from my experience as an online student, By way of contextualizing, the courses that are taught cover both the social area (anthropology, history, culture, etc.) and the physical area (hydrology, geomorphology, climatology, etc.) so that in this way our training is more complete and interdisciplinary.

The first year I had 6 branches per semester
1st semester: Mathematics, Physics, Social Geography, Physical Geography, Epistemology and Cartography

In general I think this was the worst semester I have had because I was just getting used to university life, having to get up early, knowing how to organize, also in branches such as social geography we had to read very complex texts for first-year students who are just getting acquainted with the career, it was also the semester where we had more academic face.

2nd semester: Global Climatology, Social Geography, Introduction to GIS, Economic Geography and Geology

This semester also had quite an academic load, because in 3 branches we had to read a lot and complex texts, in economic geography for example we had to read a text answer their respective questions, do an activity corresponding to the class, see the class because it was asynchronous and advance in a semester poster. I think that the branch that cost me the most was geology, there are many concepts and complex processes to learn.

In Second course 7 branches 3rd semester and the fourth semester (current) 6 branches

3rd Semester: Local Climatology, Cultural Geography, Remote Sensing, Applied Economic Geography, Geomorphology, English III, Quantitative Research Methodology It was a quite relaxed semester in terms of academic load and I began to understand better the concepts of the career, what the professors talked about and my grades were still quite good

4th Semester: Hydrology, Applications in Sig I, Quaternary Geomorphology, English IV, Rural Geography, Qualitative Research Methodology

This semester has not had much academic load and only in one branch we have proof, in the others they are weekly guides or semester works, also as we have to go on Thursdays it has become more bearable because sharing with my classmates and having face-to-face classes has served me a lot with stress and anxiety

As for the infrastructure of the faculty I can not say much because the last two years I have been with online classes and 2 months ago we began to go 1 time a week to the faculty but if I have to add a serious opinion that more rooms will be adapted so that more students can go in person to the university and that everyone has that opportunity since the pandemic it affects us all.

Time Travel to the Future

I had never thought about traveling to the future, I am more excited by the idea of traveling to the past, during the times of monarchies such as when it was the domain of Queen Elizabeth or "the virgin queen", also being part of the Vikings and part of the rituals and looting of theirs in the looting

If they made me choose a specific place to visit in the future I would not know how to decide on just one, I think that, if I have enough money, I would travel around the world in a pink time machine and seats doormats of the same color, also to not go alone I would take the opportunity to travel with a friend to share the experience and take photos with robots that dominate the world

I would like to travel about 300 years in the future, I am hopeful that in that time the human evolves and stops destroying his own planet, also I think it is a good range of time for really inviting technological advances such as flying cars, houses in the sky and robots that have feelings, I just hope they do not become evil and want to destroy the human race

The truth is that I would not like to stay in the future, the idea of being surrounded by so much technology every day is a bit uncomfortable and overwhelming, and if we are realistic due to global warming, deforestation and overpopulation, I do not think we have more than 50 years left because the planet is being destroyed
